2 Kinds Of Water Softeners You Can Choose

If you have hard water, you may want to do what you can to make sure that you get soft water again. The easiest way to get soft water is to use some kind of water softener. There are all kinds of water softeners that you can choose from. What are some of the kinds you could use?

Hard Water

All water, as it falls as rain, starts as soft water, with no contaminants or minerals. However, once it starts to go through the ground and become groundwater, that changes. As the water filters through the rocks under the soil, it starts to pick up minerals and other things from the underlying rocks. The more minerals and such get into the water, the harder the water is. Some rock causes water to be harder than others. For example, limestone, which is a relatively soft rock, is notorious for causing hard water and will add calcium and lime in the water. You can tell you have hard water if you have a hard time getting soap to suds up, or you feel like you have a film left on your skin or dishes after they get washed.

Reverse Osmosis Water Softeners

One kind of water softener that you can choose to use is a reverse osmosis softener. A reverse osmosis machine has a semi-permeable membrane in it. That membrane acts as the filter. The machine uses pressure to force the water through that membrane. The water gets purified as it goes through the membrane and 98 percent of the impurities and minerals are filtered out of the water.

Ion Exchange Water Softeners

With an ion exchange machine, the water runs through the machine and then the ions of the minerals that create the hard water are changed out for ions of sodium or potassium, which then softens the water. While this works really well for washing and such, it isn't necessarily recommended for drinking water. That's because the water can get a lot of sodium in the ion exchange process, which can be unhealthy for you.

If you have hard water, you are probably want to get rid of the hard water as quickly as possible. It can leave a film on you, your dishes, and your faucets. It can make it hard for your clothes to get rinsed off, which means that your clothes don't feel as clean as they could. There are a wide variety of water softeners and water softener products you can use like those from Better Soft Water.
